Central Illinois manufacturers must be ready for the renaissance of manufacturing in
the United States and for growth right here at home!
Many companies have voiced concern that they are unable to identify the number and quality of applicants they desire. These workforce shortages can prohibit future business and economic growth. History has proven that governmental agencies and educational systems cannot solve workforce shortages by themselves. Therefore, you cannot afford to wait for a publicly sponsored solution.
Join us in this effort to develop our Central Illinois talent pool. The Strategic Manufacturing Group, a group of local manufacturing companies, educational, and support organizations, have worked together over the last five years to organize this outstanding event.
Last year, more than 1,200 students from over 30 high schools throughout Central Illinois participated in a half-day of tours, hands-on demonstrations at local manufacturing companies, then lunch, a short presentation and a mini career exposition in the Peoria Civic Center Ballroom.
The goal of the Discover Manufacturing Career Expo is to showcase modern manufacturing, update the students’ perception of manufacturing, and encourage them to consider a career in manufacturing. This event showcases the positive attributes of the advanced manufacturing sector and updates student’s perceptions of manufacturing as a viable career path. We provide multiple alternatives to the stereotypical view that manufacturing is a dead-end, dirty, unsophisticated employment path. Through the expo and follow-up visits to high schools, we replace this false perception with the sophisticated image of modern manufacturing we all know. Additionally, manufacturers have hired some of the young people who attended prior expos.
On Tuesday & Wednesday, (October 21st & 22nd), we’re holding our 6th Annual Discover Manufacturing Expo. We need manufacturers to tell their story by exhibiting their company at the Civic Center, hosting a tour, visiting high schools, sponsoring co-ops and contributing funding.
